County Awarded Rubberized Asphalt Test Grant
The Hardin County Road Department was recently awarded a grant for $162,624 for 1 (one)mile of Rubber Modified Asphalt as part of a test project through the Kentucky Department of Division of Waste Management. Hardin County !Road Department Supervisor Michael Steck applied for the grant to carry out the project.
The test program will be on Springfield Road in Elizabethtown Ky. The county will be responsible for 1 (one) mile of additional conventional asphalt as a comparison at a cost
$86,116.80.
The work is set to begin Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at approximately 8:00 am. It is expected to take 3 to 5 working days, weather permitting. The road will remain open, but local traffic should expect some delays.
The rubberized asphalt will begin at the intersection Springfield Road (CR 1031) and Valley Creek Road (KY 567) and continue for one mile. Conventional pavement will begin there and continue for an additional mile.
The purpose of testing program is to compare wear and viability of rubberized asphalt and conventional asphalt over a period of 5 years. The county and contractors will run the normal quality standards for testing for the duration of the entire project.
